On the Banks of the River Beauly, the house was once part of the Lovat estate and was acquired by the Quattlebaums in the mid 1980s. The Lovat estate at one time stretched from the east to the west coasts of Scotland, encompassing a large part of the Highlands. The Lovat Chiefs have been interesting and colorful characters who ruled the Fraser clan and properties for over seven hundred years. One of the most beguiling and villainous being the Lord Lovat, known as The Fox, who was head of the Clan during the time of the 1745 Rebellion. He backed both sides, but when the Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobites lost at Culloden, Lovat ended up on the wrong side and thus became the last peer to be beheaded in England. The Quattlebaums have donated time at Eskadale to a number of charity auctions to share their home and to aid worthy causes. Click here to read more about the house and view further images. |
